This simple recipe for cranberry tuna salad on apple slices can be made in about 5 minutes. Â It’s perfect as a quick, healthy lunch.
A simple dressing of mayo and apple cider vinegar makes the tuna salad tart. Â The dried cranberries and apple slices are a nice sweet contrast.
If you don’t have sweet apples, you may want to cut back on the vinegar when making this dish. Â I had honey crisp apples, which were perfect in this recipe.

Video
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp. mayonnaise Greek yogurt would also work
- 1 tsp. apple cider vinegar
- 1/8 tsp. salt
- 1/8 tsp. ground black pepper
- 1 (5 oz.) can tuna packed in water, well drained
- 2 tbsp. dried cranberries
- 1 medium sweet apple pink lady, honey crisp, etc.
Instructions
- In a small bowl, add the mayo, vinegar, salt, and pepper. Stir until smooth.
- Add the drained tuna and cranberries to the bowl. Mix to combine.
- Slice around the apple core to make about 6 sturdy apple slices.
- Spoon the tuna salad onto the apple slices.
So I created something similar to this on my own today, and then googled “apple with tuna” because I wondered if others thought it would be wierd LOL. I mixed up one can Tuna, 1 tablespoon dill relish, one tablespoon mustard – and then sliced up an apple (slice off the sides of the core) and it was delicious, and also healthier than adding mayo and cranberries. I would normally dip chips in the tuna salad, but obviously, an apple is much healthier.
Surprisingly good! I prefer creamy base, so I doubled the Mayo and ACV. Also, I added pecans.
Is it whole 30 compliant?
Not Whole30 unless you can find cranberries with no sugar….and use Whole30 mayo.
I’ve made this many times and it’s so yummy! I do change it up a bit-cut up a few slices of apple and add a little more apple cider vinegar to add to the tartness. Then I eat it on Wasa crackers which are nice and crunchy!
Love this recipe. No dairy and no gluten make simple choices like this very valuable. Thanks
Not a tuna fan so I’m going to give this a shot with some chicken
How do you keep the salad from leaking out through the hole made by coring?
don’t core the apple ,use the sides of the apple
I think I’ll make this for Lunch today. I have everything already. The only thing different is the Apple. I have Granny Smiths because those are my favorite apples to eat. So I’ll use those.
Hi April, I bet granny smith apples would be great for this! Hope you like it 🙂
Just tried this for lunch today and absolutely LOVED it!! I did it with the greek yogurt and it was perfect!!
Thanks Kylee! I’m so glad you liked it 🙂
This looks so good. I’ve replaced bread with lettuce or cucumber slices for a tuna “sandwich,” but I’ve never thought to use apples! Love the idea of the sweetness of the apple. I’m going to try this for lunch tomorrow, with some added diced celery!
Thanks Jane! Apple slices are one of my favorite swaps and I think they’re great with tuna salad. Hope you like it 🙂
I had this for lunch today. It was quick and easy and delicious! It will be my go-to tuna salad lunch from now on. Thank you!!
Thanks so much Ana! I often come back to this recipe myself. I’m so glad you like it 🙂
Could I use chicken salad with the cranberries instead of tuna
Yes. That would be great!
This was excellent! I added an 1/8 teaspoon onion powder and diced a half stick of celery very fine! I really enjoyed it and so did my daughter.
